{"id":7414,"date":"2026-03-16T10:37:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T10:37:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fci4africa.eu\/?p=7414"},"modified":"2026-03-16T10:39:42","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T10:39:42","slug":"building-farmer-capacity-on-aflatoxin-control-in-moniya-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fci4africa.eu\/de\/building-farmer-capacity-on-aflatoxin-control-in-moniya-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"Building Farmer Capacity on Aflatoxin Control in Moniya, Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"7414\" class=\"elementor elementor-7414\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-36bafbc4 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"36bafbc4\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-13fc2071 sc_fly_static elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"13fc2071\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The FCI4Africa project (Fair Food and Trade Systems for Africa through Food Convergence Innovation), in collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/foodsafety4africa.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Food Safety for Africa project (FS4Africa)<\/a>, delivered a capacity development training in <b><span data-start=\"694\" data-end=\"734\">Moniya Community, Oyo State, Nigeria<\/span>,<\/b> for members of <span data-start=\"751\" data-end=\"789\"><b>FitCrown Agro Technical Enterprise<\/b><\/span>, a farmers\u2019 cooperative network. \u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; font-size: 18px;\">The training<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-style: normal; margin-bottom: 0px; font-size: 18px;\">, o<\/span>rganised as part of the projects&#8217; end-of-year activities,\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; font-size: 18px;\">took place on\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-style: normal; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold;\">31 January 2026<\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">\u00a0and aimed to strengthen participants\u2019 knowledge of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\" data-start=\"786\" data-end=\"810\"><b>aflatoxin mitigation, <\/b>while improving<b>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">access to information and tools that support <\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\" data-start=\"868\" data-end=\"904\"><b>safe and profitable food systems<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> among domestic value chain actors. The activity was implemented under <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fci4africa.eu\/de\/use-case-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Use Case 1 \u2013 Promoting a Healthy, Safe, and Profitable Food System through Scalable Food Safety Technologies<\/a> <span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">within the FCI4Africa project.<\/span><\/p><p>The training was delivered by the <a href=\"https:\/\/fci4africa.eu\/de\/about-fci4africa\/partners\/iita\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-start=\"1154\" data-end=\"1212\">International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA)<\/span><\/a> team to <span data-start=\"1221\" data-end=\"1240\"><b>56 participants<\/b><\/span>, using both <span data-start=\"1253\" data-end=\"1275\"><b>Yoruba and English<\/b><\/span> to ensure accessibility and effective knowledge transfer. Prior to the training, most participants had limited knowledge of aflatoxins and available management methods.<\/p><p>DURCH<b> <span data-start=\"1454\" data-end=\"1556\">int<\/span><\/b><span data-start=\"1454\" data-end=\"1556\"><b>eractive lectures, practical demonstrations, and the distribution of printed learning materials<\/b><\/span> in both languages, participants were introduced to the nature of aflatoxins, how contamination can occur <span data-start=\"1662\" data-end=\"1690\"><b>before and after harvest<\/b><\/span>, and the <span data-start=\"1700\" data-end=\"1760\"><b>health risks associated with consuming contaminated food<\/b><\/span>. The training also presented practical control and mitigation approaches, including the use of <span data-start=\"1856\" data-end=\"1868\"><b>Aflasafe<\/b><\/span>, <span data-start=\"1870\" data-end=\"1882\"><b>DryCards<\/b><\/span>, and <span data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"1901\"><b>PICS bags<\/b><\/span>, as well as <span data-start=\"1914\" data-end=\"2010\"><b>quantitative assessment methods using the Neogen Raptor system for rapid aflatoxin detection<\/b><\/span>.<\/p><p>Participants received <span data-start=\"2035\" data-end=\"2075\"><b>PICS bags and informative factsheets<\/b><\/span> to support the adoption of improved storage and contamination management practices in their daily operations.
